Berowra Waters Residents Handbook

There is really no end to the exploring that can be done by kayak and canoe in Berowra Waters. It seems there is an extraordinary discovery around every corner.

If you are looking for direction however, then a paddle up Calabash Bay at high tide is a must. As you pass the sand spit described in the swimming section, stick to the right and head up the creek. You will quickly be totally isolated from the modern world with nothing but mangroves and bush surrounding you. Take your swimming clothes as there is a beautiful swimming hole at the camping ground mid-way up the creek.

Paddling up past Silverwater Reach and heading toward Crosslands will bring similar serenity and majesty as Calabash Bay, as will a trip up to the top of Joe Crafts Bay though this trip may become a walk if the tide is not high enough.

These trips are best started a few hours before the top of the tide so that tides can assist you paddling in and out of these pristine locations. It will also ensure that you have plenty of water to paddle out on in a few hours’ time.

Tide charts are available at RMS Hornsby, or online is a good site to Bookmark is tides. Click here and set up Berowra Waters as your base.
