Take a step out the back door and you are bushwalking!
Berowra Waters is surrounded by National Parks and pristine bush, but aside from exploring your own back yard, there are many options for taking both a long and a short bushwalk from Berowra Waters.
The Great North Walk passes along the eastern foreshore and can be accessed near the Ferry, next to the Tea House driveway to head south to Crosslands. The walk to Crosslands takes about one and a half hours.
To head north on the Great North Walk to Berowra, follow Kirkpatrick Way to the end of the residents’ carpark and keep walking.
The Great North Walk will come out in Berowra at the end of Turner road, which is a good point to drop people off or pick them up for a one-way trip. The trip takes about 2 hours or you can keep going to Cowan and on to Brooklyn.
The Fretus Ruins sit atop Calabash Point (Calabash Bay).
There is a fire trail / walking track running from the end of Mccallums Road at Berrilee, which ends at the Fretus Ruins. You will need to allow 45 min travel time to drive to Berrilee to start this walk, or if you happen to be located at Calabash Point you can walk out the back door and up the Fretus ruins to start your trip. It is great to get out into the bush all year around, but in early Spring you will be amazed by the wildflowers that appear in the pristine bush.
Bushwalking Safety
Of course, you need sensible shoes, plenty of water and sun protection. Always take your mobile phone you will be surprised where it works. Tell someone your route and what time you are returning so that you will be missed if anything goes wrong.
